Halal Turkish & Mediterraneanin Boston

Every dish at Ali Baba Charlestown is 100% halal — chicken, lamb, beef, everything. Certified meat, one kitchen, no separate non-halal line. Char-grilled kebabs, doner wraps, warm mezze, and Turkish desserts, all made the traditional way.

Why we say “halal” without an asterisk

The short answer: every single dish.

01

100% halal meat

Every chicken, lamb, and beef item on the menu is halal-certified. No exceptions, no partial menu.

02

One kitchen, one standard

We don't prepare any non-halal food on the premises — no risk of cross-contamination.

03

Turkish, not just kebab

Halal doesn't mean generic. Every dish here is Turkish family recipe — mezze, pide, doner, baklava, and sütlaç.

04

Halal-friendly beverages

No alcohol on the menu. Turkish black tea in tulip glasses, ayran, and soft drinks.

The standard

What halal means in our kitchen

Halal is more than a label on the meat. It's the whole path — from the farm, to the slaughter, to the plate. Our meat comes from a halal-certified supplier who follows the traditional method: a healthy animal, a swift cut, all blood drained, nothing else in the process that would render the meat unlawful.

We don't run a partially halal kitchen. There is no second grill for non-halal meat, no side menu of dishes outside the halal standard. Every kebab that comes off the char grill, every wrap, every pide, every plate is halal. The mezze — hummus, babaganoush, tabuleh, falafel — is halal too, because we don't use alcohol or animal derivatives in any of it.

That's why our regulars — many of them Muslim families from across Boston and Cambridge — bring their kids and their in-laws without having to ask. It's all halal, all the time.

Common questions

Halal at Ali Baba asked & answered

Is Ali Baba Charlestown a halal restaurant?

Yes. Ali Baba Charlestown is a fully halal restaurant. Every meat item on the menu — chicken, lamb, and beef — is prepared with 100% halal-certified meat from a trusted supplier. Vegetarian and vegan dishes on the menu are, by definition, halal as well.

What does halal mean at Ali Baba?

Halal means the meat is sourced and prepared according to Islamic dietary law: the animal is healthy, the slaughter follows the prescribed method, and the meat is kept free of forbidden ingredients like alcohol or pork. In our kitchen it also means the same standard applies to every menu item — there is no separate non-halal line.

How can I tell that a dish is halal here?

You don't need to check dish-by-dish — every meat item on the Ali Baba Charlestown menu is halal. That includes the doner rotisserie, all the kebabs (Adana, Shish, Kofte, Chicken, Lamb), the wraps, the pide, and the lahmajun. If it's on our menu, it's halal.

Do you serve alcohol?

No. Ali Baba Charlestown does not serve alcohol. Turkish tea, ayran, and soft drinks are on the beverage menu.

Is your kitchen separated from non-halal preparation?

Yes. Because we don't prepare any non-halal food on the premises, there is no cross-contamination risk. The entire kitchen and every utensil is used only for halal food.

Are your vegetarian and vegan dishes halal?

Yes. Falafel, hummus, tabuleh, babaganoush, sauteed eggplants, spicy vegetable dip, and the small vegetarian plate are all halal — vegetarian and vegan food is halal by definition, and we don't cook any of it with alcohol or non-halal ingredients.
